E-mail received from Diane (10 May 2016)

Dear Ben,

My name is Diane Evangelista Neiser from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA.  I am Ted Evangelista's daughter.  His full name was Theodore C. Evangelista.  My mother received your letter about my father being a member of the 643rd Tank Destroyer Battalion.  You have started a wonderful project to honor these men.  We applaud your effort.  My father died on May 18, 2003 at the age of 84.  He was very proud of his military service and I am sure he would want me to help you with your project. I have attached a few pictures that we have that may be useful to you.  I don't know exactly how long he served in the U.S. Army.  From some things we have, it seemed like he served for two years at least.  He was drafted into the army on February 5, 1942 at the age of 23.  I remember him talking about being in Belgium and Germany, of course.

The first picture is of his medals.  The second picture is of him in a tank.  My father is in the first row on the left. In the group picture you will see his dog tags that are hard to read.  This picture was very wide including a lot of men who served with him.  I only photographed a section of the picture where my dad was standing.  He is in the second row. He is the second man from the right side in the second row.  I did not count the man I cut off in the picture.

I have not gone to look at your website yet, but I will.  Please let me know if you get this email.  By the way, my mother is still living.  She is 92 years old.  She was delighted to get your letter.  Also, your use of the English language is excellent!  My parents live in Bridgeville, PA not "Ridgefield."  Your letter did arrive just fine!

If you have any questions, please let me know.  We will try to help you.

Regards,

Diane
